Special Notes to Applicants:

Starting faculty salary range for 2017-18 is $53,887-$61,837 for a 1.0 FTE, 168-day, academic year contract. Excellent benefit package.


This position is subject to Article 31 of the Faculty Association Collective Bargaining Agreement. In the event of a reduction in force, this position may be afforded less protection than non-Article 31 faculty.

Position Title: Culinary Arts Faculty
Division/Department: Culinary Arts
Job Summary:

Develop and instruct a full range of culinary arts courses. Provide leadership to ensure program quality and to respond to the needs of the community. Assist the Department Chair in management of department programs and processes. Oversee and support department staff. Collaborate and coordinate with Food and Conference Services in the operation of a working commercial kitchen that also serves as a classroom/lab.

Required Qualifications:

Associate degree or completion of an equivalent accredited culinary arts program, plus five years’ experience in culinary arts or a food service industry.

Licenses & Certificates: Requires a current Food Handler’s card, or must obtain within 30 days of employment. Requires a current OLCC card, or must obtain within 30 days of employment.

Preferred Qualifications:

Training and/or experience in instructional processes and procedures applicable to adult students. A minimum of one-year prior experience as a culinary arts instructor in a degree or certificate culinary arts program.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Working Conditions: Work is performed indoors with potential exposure to heat, noise and ventilation elements related to a kitchen/dining room environment. Frequently work early/late hours and extended hours. Must be available for evening and weekend work.

Physical Skills and Abilities: Must be able to stand and/or walk for extended periods of time. Must be able to carry a standard banquet service tray weighing up to 35 pounds with one hand and proper technique. Requires ability to lift light to medium weight objects of 10 to 50 pounds. Must have sufficient hand, arm, and finger dexterity to operate kitchen/dining room equipment and tools, and standard office equipment. Requires sufficient eye-hand coordination and depth perception to safely operate equipment and to prepare food around potentially dangerous equipment. Must have sufficient hearing and well-developed speaking ability to communicate with staff and students.

Essential Duties:

Develop and teach comprehensive culinary arts courses that meet the learning needs of students, which includes syllabi, lectures, demonstrations, quizzes and exams.

Identify and assess student-learning outcomes, and revise curriculum as needed to enhance students’ skills development, and increase retention and completion rates. Contribute to curriculum development. Evaluate and update content to adhere to current and/or relevant industry standards.

Coordinate with the Food and Conference Services Manager in the operation of a working commercial kitchen that serves as a classroom/lab for the Culinary Arts Program and provides food services for the college. Act as a team member of the culinary arts and food service areas.

Align with the strategic goals and values of the college pertaining to equity, values and completion.

Actively participate in the affairs of the division, including college and community outreach.

Serve on and work with various college committees.

Assist with student advising.

Assist with high school pathways and articulation.

Work periodic evening hours as required for Culinary Arts events.

Perform other related duties as assigned.
